It was a lazy day, especially for sunburned me.

The ladies doing some early evening coloring.

Today was a lazy day for me. I reached the “itchy” stage of my sunburn so I really didn’t want to be out in the sun. I ping-ponged between the living room and the balconies as the geometry of the sun dictated.

I started Modern Man in Search of a Soul by Carl Jung. It’s not something I’d explicitly added to my reading list, but so much of what I’ve learned recently refers back to Jung, it felt like a good idea to get closer to the source. I have neither the knowledge nor the intellect to understand most of it, but I find that a useful tidbit or two always rubs off on me regardless.

The book starts with an essay on dream analysis. Not in the sense of “here’s how to analyze your dreams” or “here’s what it means when you dream about this,” but rather a defense of dream analysis in general. Why it might be useful and what context you’d need in order for it to be so.

At least that’s what I took from it. I’m not a psychiatrist.

Interesting tidbit, overnight I had a recurring dream resolve itself as it never had before. I don’t know if that was coincidence or if the book had shaken something loose; I only know it’s a dream I’d had in the past but had not remembered on the waking side until now. I had to spend a few seconds recentering myself afterward. “That’s not something I really did, right?”

I’m not interested in analyzing my dreams. I assume they’re a collaboration (fight?) between my conscious and unconscious mind to guide me through life and clean up the mistakes I make. That’s enough analysis for me.

The rest of the family spent most of the day on the beach. We made homemade pizzas for dinner. Kinsley and I colored while they were in the oven.

Coloring with (and occasionally being teased by) Kinsley before dinner.

After dinner we went to the little ice cream shop down the road for dessert. We made it there about five minutes before closing time but the young lady behind the counter was very nice regardless. We ate our ice cream at the dock on Mobile Bay and were treated to a distant lightning storm from one lonely anvil as it created whatever ruckus it could muster somewhere southwest of Mobile. I doubt it did anybody any harm.

No alligators tonight.
