Little by little we’re tracing the grid.

Our track logs through February 1st, 2025.

When I uploaded the track log from the latest of our walks at Badger, I noticed that we’ve covered, maybe, half of the grid of old roads and trails in the production area.

We’ve decided to make a game out of this. We’re going to cover them all.

The game has two rules:

  • No looking at at any sort of map while we’re at Badger.
  • Nothing mathematical; no spanning tree strategies or anything like that (I’m not smart enough for that stuff anyway.)

It’s difficult to efficiently knock out large chunks without accidentally retracing steps we’ve already taken. After the first quarter mile or so, I tend to recognize a rock or a tree or an infrastructural relic that I’ve seen before. From there it’s hard to find untrodden ground without a map.

It’s not exciting but it doesn’t have to be. Old dudes and old dogs need to get out and move around and that’s.all that matters.
