Today we went for our first Badger walk of the snowy season.

Red dog in white snow before green trees under blue sky.

Bit and I went for our first walk of the snowy season today at Sauk Prairie State Recreation Area. We had a decent snow event over the past couple days which, I’d estimate, dropped maybe four or five inches of relatively dry snow in our area. At this depth I can walk in boots, don’t need snowshoes, and Bit can do her aimless frantic wandering without difficulty.

It was the perfect soft reintroduction to winter.

The sound of your own feet plodding through squeaky snow isn’t the sound of falling water, it isn’t perfect universal therapy every time you hear it, but for the first little bit of winter it has its own calming effect, provided you’re out in the snow by choice.
