Today I joined up with the ladies for some playground action at Middleton Firefighters Memorial Park and then some plane watching at Middleton Municipal Airport.
It was a very nice day today, but it was hot! We thought about taking Emmy for a ground ride in the plane, she’s been making a lot of noises about wanting to go for a ride, but we decided to skip that for now. Riding around in a big glass bubble with no air conditioning on an 86-degree day is not a good way to introduce a person to airplanes.
We went to the playground and had fun there instead. Emmy and Kinsley spent a lot of time on the pneumatic elevator ride. It looks like a lot of fun but it is super high so it takes quite a bit of courage. I don’t remember ever seeing anything like it on a playground when I was a kid.
Caelynn played on the elevator and all the other equipment, too, but she broke off after a while to play batting practice with her dad. She can hit it a ton! Sometimes she forgets to wait until the ball has been pitched before she swings, but patience will come in time.
When we got back to the airport, we crawled around on the plane and played with the wing flappers for a while. I am hoping that Emmy will be at Girls in Aviation Day to help me show the plane to all of the other kids. She needs to know where all of the buttons and flippers and doodads are if she is going to do that effectively.
The Wings to Fly event was in progress, so we did a little plane watching, too. It’s fun to watch the slightly older kids learn about airplanes and go flying. Sometimes it is their very first time.
Not everybody gets to do stuff like this pretty much whenever they want. We sure are lucky!
